Tears

There she lay in bed
Book in her hands
Pen full of words
But the tears rolled on.

Thoughts swirling her mind
A hurricane deep within
Thoughts that she tried to control
Thoughts that controlled her instead
She tried to let go
But the tears rolled on.

Thoughts that spread across her mind
And filled it all the way
All the way to the surface
All the way to the pen
She tried to blot the paper with ink
But the tears rolled on

She tried to sort it all out
She tried to pick out the thoughts
She tried to toss each around
She tried to untangle it all
Too intertwined were they
And the tears rolled on

She put down her pen
And let it all go
She lay down in bed
As the tears rolled on.
