Horn of Plenty

This one is based on the legend of Zeus and Amalthea the nymph-goat and also the one of Venus and Hephastes. Just a few thoughts that crossed my mind.

Horn of Plenty

That majestic God of Gods-
Zeus so powerful and fair,
Sacrifices his only nurse
Amalthea who did care.

Venus, that breathtaking Goddess,
Who in beauty was abound,
Among her many suitors,
Chose Hephastes from the ground.

When our Gods thus
Do betray the Horn of Plenty,
What then is lowly man,
Created by their majesty?

He that is blessed in bounty,
Adorned in many a way,
But uses his gifts wisely,
Trashing it all away.

While those unfortunate,
Who get the least,
Are those that honor it most,
Knowing it for a beast.

When our fair Gods
Do betray the Horn of Plenty,
What then is lowly man,
Biased against in plenty?
